PADI Drysuit Diver

What is it?

To be able to get the most from diving in the UK, you need to be able to dive in a drysuit as a drysuit will keep you much warmer than a wetsuit or semi-dry. This will extend your diving season so that you can comfortably dive throughout the year in British waters.

Who can take part?

You must be at least PADI Open Water Diver Qualified (or equivalent) and be a minimum of 12 years old to participate in this Speciality.

What does the course involve?

You will begin by reading the PADI Drysuit Diver Manual covering the techniques of dry suit diving, with emphasis placed on the use of dry suits, operating principles, care and diving techniques. You will then complete the knowledge review and review this with your instructor. Next comes a confined water training session during which you will learn the basics of diving in a drysuit, and then two open water dives during which you will put the skills and knowledge that you have learned into practice. The course will teach you about:

  • The planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of dry suit diving.
  • Proper procedures for buoyancy control.
  • Ascent and descent technique training.
  • Routine, user-level, preventative maintenance and performance checks on dry suits.

How long will it take?

You will complete one pool training session run on a Thursday or Friday evening plus a day in open water.

How do I book a course?

We have courses running regularly throughout the year. Take a look at the course calendar for the next course dates. To book your place on the next course all we need is a £75 deposit. You will also need to get the course materials prior to commencing the course. You can either call in the shop to pay your deposit and collect the course materials, download the course booking forma and send it to us or simply ring us quoting your credit card number and we can post out the course materials to you (postage charged at cost).
