PADI Assistant Instructor Course

What is it?

As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional scuba diver, but you also start learning the PADI System of diver education. You can act as an instructional scuba assistant and assume limited teaching responsibilities. It’s a great way to gain experience in order to become a scuba instructor.

Who can take part?

In order to enrol on the PADI Assistant Instructor course you must:

  • Hold a Dive Leader certification — PADI Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized recreational diver training organization
  • Be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Have medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.
  • Have been a certified diver for a minimum of six months.
  • Have an EFR Primary and Secondary Care qualification (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
  • If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.

What does the course involve?

Assistant instructor candidates must:

  • Complete all independent learning sections online through PADI eLearning
  • Participate in the following curriculum components:
    • Course Orientation
    • Developing Knowledge Development Presentations
    • 4 Es Counseling Workshop 1
    • Teaching in Confined Water
    • Conducting Open Water Dives
    • Rescue Exercise Workshop
  • Present at least two knowledge development teaching presentations gaining a passing score on at least one.
  • Present at least two confined water teaching presentations, gaining a passing score on at least one
  • Present at least one integrated (two skills) open water teaching presentation, gaining a passing score on each skill
  • Perform all 20 dive skills in the Skill Evaluation
  • Complete the PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam
  • Complete the PADI Divemaster course Diver Rescue assessment in open water.

How long will it take?

Candidates must complete the Instructor Development e-learning modules prior to the start of the course. This is equivalent to about two days study. The course will then take approximately 3 days (or equivalent time in training sessions), but additional time may be required if passing scores are not achieved and more practice is required.

How do I book a course?

We have courses running regularly throughout the year. See the course calendar for our next course dates, or contact us at the shop. To book your place on the next course all we need is a £75 deposit with the balance due at the start of the course. You will also need to complete the e-learning requirements and get the course materials prior to commencing the course.

You can either call in the shop to pay your deposit and collect the course materials, download the course booking form and send it to us with your payment or simply ring us quoting your credit card number and we can post out the course materials to you (postage charged at cost).

If you choose to complete the Knowledge development portions of the course by E-learning there is a fee payable to PADI when you register for e-learning (currently £237 plus VAT).

Course fees include all tuition. Assistant instructor candidates are required to have their own dive equipment. . Entry fees and transport to dive sites are not included. In order to complete the e-learning part of this course there is a registration fee paid direct to PADI. On completion of the course there is an application fee paid direct to PADI.
