PADI Deep Diver

What is it?

Diving deeper can get you to some very special dive sites that are beyond the limits of the average diver. However, it also brings with it greater hazards. To be properly prepared you need to complete the Deep Diver program. During this program, you’ll cover the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to dive deeper. Following certification as a PADI Deep Diver you will be allowed to dive up to a maximum of 40 metres. Diving below 30 metres without this qualification is not safe and will invalidate any dive insurance, so if you are planning to dive deeper make sure that you get this qualification and do it safely.

Who can take part?

Divers must be an Adventure Diver (or equivalent) or above to participate in this Speciality and must be at least 15 years old.

What does the course involve?

You will begin by reading the Deep Diver manual and completing the knowledge review. You will then have a session with your instructor followed by four open water dives. The course will teach you about:

  • Planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of deep diving.
  • Risk factors and decompression tables review.
  • Response from shore/boat (conscious victim)
  • Safety stops and emergency decompression procedures.
  • Special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy-control considerations.
  • Procedures for flying after diving and high-altitude diving

The open water dives will be conducted over at least two days. The minimum depth for the deep dives is between 18 to 30 metres, with no dive exceeding 40 metres. All your dives will be conducted within no-decompression limits.

How long will it take?

The course can be completed over two days.
