PADI SMB Distinctive Speciality
What is it?
Whether you dive in the UK or abroad, a delayed surface marker buoy is an important bit of safety kit that you need to know how to use. Deploying a surface marker buoy before you start your ascent at the end of the dive, or when you get into a current underwater tells you dive boat and other surface vessels where you are, allowing your boat to follow your progress and other users to stay clear. You can safely ascend to the surface without the fear of a passing vessel getting too close and knowing that your boat will be there to pick you up regardless of how far you may have drifted.
Who can take part?
Anyone qualified as a PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver or has an equivalent qualification from another training organisation can enrol on this course.
What does the course involve?
You will complete two open water training dives during which you will learn how to deploy a surface marker buoy in different situations.
How long will it take?
The two dives can be completed in a single day.
