PADI Wreck Diver

What is it?

British waters are full of the remains of ships that have run into trouble and ended their days on the seabed. They make for some fascinating diving, but present their own hazards to the unprepared diver. Wreck diving can be a hazardous activity to those who do not have the correct training. The purpose of this course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and excitement of diving on wrecks. This course is designed to be a safe, supervised introduction to wreck diving and will give you the skills and knowledge that you need to dive wrecks safely.

Who can take part?

To complete this course you must have your PADI Adventure Diver qualification (or equivalent) and be a minimum of 15 years old.

What does the course involve?

You will begin by reading the Wreck Diver manual and completing the knowledge review. You will then complete a review with your instructor followed by four open water dives over a minimum of two days. The course will:

  • Develop your practical knowledge of the underwater wreck environment.
  • Raise your awareness of the historical value of wrecks and of social and legal issues surrounding them.
  • Enable you to plan and organise dives to safely explore wrecks, including the preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels.
  • Teach you limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures.

This course is a must if you are interested in exploring the fascinating world of wreck diving.

How long will it take?

The course can be completed over two days. If you have already completed a wreck adventure dive this can be credited towards the course and the remaining three dives can be completed in a single day.
