National Geographic Diver

National Geographic Diver - What Is It?
As a National Geographic Diver you can join an elite group of explorers, adventurers and conservationists. The insight and training you gain during this program will broaden your awareness and take your diving skills to a new level. You will learn to observe and explore like an underwater scientist.
Whether you’re new to scuba diving, or an experienced diver, the National Geographic Diver program will give you new tools to understand and safely explore the underwater world.

New to Diving?
Complete the National Geographic Diver Course

Your experience begins with the PADI Open Water Diver Program, enhanced with adventures unique to the National Geographic Diver Program. You will learn to explore with detail, identify important underwater features and navigate with certainty. You will have the diving knowledge and practice to manoeuvre with poise along the reefs ecosystem.

During your course you will:
· Learn basic dive skills and safety information through the PADI Open Water Diver course.
· Be introduced to worldwide dive environments and opportunities by interacting with the National Geographic Diver Almanac and DVD.
· Learn to fine-tune your buoyancy to hover easily and manoeuvre carefully through delicate aquatic habitats.
· Learn how to observe your surroundings in order to get the best experience from each dive. You’ll gain practical experience by gathering information and collecting images to create a visual representation of a dive site, detailing what you’ve discovered through your observations.
· Improve your navigation skills and ability to find your way around underwater by using a compass as well as natural references.
In addition to the five pool training sessions and four open water dives completed on the PADI Open Water Diver Course, you will complete an additional pool training session and two additional open water dives during the National Geographic Diver course.

Qualified Diver?
The National Geographic Portal Is For You
Most PADI Divers are fascinated with the aquatic world, which inspires them to learn more. Because you have already learned the theory and skills of diving, the National Geographic Portal gives you the opportunity to build on your dive experience to learn about new adventures, exploration and conservation opportunities.
The National Geographic Portal will help you take your dive experiences to a new level. How? You’ll learn more about the world’s oceans and waterways and discover details that will enhance your personal dive adventures.
During the National Geographic Portal, you’ll take your exploration skills to an advanced level by collecting data to construct a visual representation of what you explored. This project may result in a map, graph, sketch, diagram or photo essay. You and your instructor will decide on your area of focus and plan your dive accordingly. You’ll also gain navigational skills that will aid in the exploration process. Your exploration skills will give you a new appreciation for the aquatic environment and add enjoyment to each dive. You’ll find yourself sharing your discoveries with other divers and becoming a true underwater ambassador.
Whether you are a certified PADI Diver or certified by another organisation, you can take advantage of the National Geographic Portal. The National Geographic Portal consists of a knowledge review based on information from the National Geographic Diver Almanac and DVD. In addition, you'll fine-tune your buoyancy, navigation, exploration, and observation skills while on one confined water dive and two open water dives.
