Choose another course Open Water Diver What is it? The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the most popular diver training program in the world and your ticket to a lifetime of adventure. You will learn about scuba fundamentals, equipment and techniques.
The PADI Open Water Diver qualification is recognised in more countries and territories around the world than any other and is your ticket to dive charters and resort diving, equipment- rentals and purchases and opportunities to expand your diving skills through PADI’s advanced and specialty programs. Who can take part? Virtually anyone in good health who is reasonably fit and comfortable in the water can learn to scuba dive (you will have to be able to swim 200 metres and tread water for ten minutes). Participants as young as 10 may complete the PADI Open Water Diver Program, and if between the ages of 10 and 15 will receive the Junior Open Water Diver qualification. What does the course involve? The course consists of:
Five classroom sessions –
These include videos, instructor presentations and quizzes. You will be required to complete some independent study prior to each academic session. These sessions will give you the basic principles and essential knowledge needed for safe and enjoyable diving.
Five confined water dives –
During these sessions you will apply dive principles and learn and practice dive procedures and skills. These sessions will be conducted at Yearsley Pool on Haxby Road, York.
Four open water dives –
The open water dives complete your training as an entry-level diver by applying and further developing your knowledge and dive skills in an open water environment under your instructor’s supervision and guidance. How long will it take? We run the academic and confined water dives over five weeks on a Friday evening, starting with an academic session at the shop from 6.00-7.30pm, followed by a confined water dive from 8.00-9.30pm at the pool.
The Open Water Dives are conducted over two Sundays, normally at an inland dive site called Capernwray, located near Kirkby Lonsdale in Lancashire. Referral course? Do you want to learn to dive but think that the water is too cold in England? Going on holiday and want to learn to dive, but don’t want to spend several days of your holiday in a classroom? Then the PADI Open Water Referral Course could be perfect for you. This course allows you to complete all your theory and confined water training with us. You will then get a certificate which is valid for 12 months during which time you can go to any PADI centre anywhere in the world to complete the open water part of the course and qualify as a PADI Open Water Diver. How do I book a course? We have courses running regularly throughout the year. To book your place on the next course all we need is a £75 deposit. You will also need to get the course materials prior to commencing the course. You will need to have read the first module in your manual and completed the relevant knowledge reviews prior to starting the course.
You can either call in the shop to pay your deposit and collect the course materials, or simply ring us quoting your credit card number and we can post out the course materials to you (postage charged at cost).
