Choose another course Rescue Diver What is it? The PADI Rescue Diver program makes the subject of accident prevention and management not only fun, but extremely rewarding! Until now the emphasis of your training has been on basic accident prevention and safe diving. The PADI Rescue Diver program takes you to the next level, expanding this to include accident management and rescue techniques.During the PADI Rescue Diver program you’ll learn how to anticipate, prevent and manage potential dive accidents. From assisting a tired diver to handling emergency scenarios, you’ll practice applying the knowledge and skills that can make the difference in the unlikely event problems do arise. Who can take part? You will need to have your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver qualification or equivalent qualification from another organisation. Students under the age of 16 will receive the Junior Rescue Diver qualification. A current first aid qualification is required and the PADI Emergency First Response course is run in conjunction with the Rescue Diver course. What does the course involve? The course comprises of:
Knowledge Development
This part of the course develops the principles and information you will need for preventing and handling dive emergencies, with topics including self rescue, diver stress, diving first-aid, emergency management, equipment problems and rescue assistance procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims on the surface and underwater. Knowledge development is completed through independent study of the Rescue Diver manual, the Rescue Diver video and review sessions with your instructor.
Confined Water Training
During confined water training you will learn the techniques for handling various emergency situations:
· Tired diver
· Panicked diver
· Response from shore/boat (conscious victim)
· Distressed diver underwater
· Missing diver
· Surfacing the unconscious diver
· Unconscious diver at the surface
· Egress with an unconscious diver
· First aid for pressure-related accidents
· Response from shore/boat (unconscious victim)
As you master rescue techniques you will learn to adapt what you practice to suit the situation, your physical attributes, those of the victim and the nature of the diving environment.
Open Water Training
You will take part in four open water training scenarios. These are completed at the end of the course and are an opportunity for you to bring together all that you have learned and apply your new techniques and skills in a realistic simulated rescue situation. Students will act as a team to manage and conduct the rescue with little or no assistance from your instructor.
Emergency First Response This course is required for people who do not hold a current first aid qualification and is included in the price of the Rescue Diver course. EMF is a general first aid course and covers all aspects of CPR and first aid. It is not dive specific so is ideal for divers and non-divers alike. There are no prerequisites to this course so divers can bring family and friends to gain a first aid certification that could prove invaluable in all aspects of daily life. How long will it take? The rescue diver knowledge development and confined water training are either run over five weeks on a Friday evening, or over two Saturdays. You will then complete your open water scenarios over a single day at a local open water dive site. How do I book a course? We have courses running regularly throughout the year. To book your place on the next course all we need is a £50 deposit. You will also need to get the course materials prior to commencing the course.
