PADI Seals

What is it?
The PADI Seal Team Program is an exciting pool based, underwater, activity-filled introduction to the world of diving. The program gives children a chance to swim around underwater and experience adventure, discovery and thrills. It also provides parents with a structured program that lets their children develop skills, learn about the aquatic realm and have lots of fun.

Who can take part?
Participants must be at least 8 years old and must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water.

What does the course involve?
Children initially complete five “aquamissions” which develop fundamental scuba skills and knowledge. They will learn about diving by watching the PADI Seal Team Video, through the PADI Seal Team Aquamission activity book and during pre-dive briefings with their PADI Instructor.

Each of the first five aquamissions consists of a briefing, a skill session and then games or activities. Completing the pool dive and answering questions in their PADI Seal Team Aquamission Logbooks earns young divers an Aquamission Decal. Finishing Aquamissions 1-5 means youngsters become Seal Team Members and receive a Seal Team Member Card and wall certificate recognising their accomplishments.

Children can then work toward PADI Master Seal Team Recognition by completing a further 10 additional specialty aquamissions:

· Creature ID Specialist – introduces characteristics of common aquatic creatures with a focus on identifying local aquatic life.

· Environmental Specialist – to show participants how scientists analyse litter and pollutants to determine what they are and where they come from.

· Inner Space Specialist - experience weightlessness similar to that felt by astronauts in space.

· Navigation Specialist – to develop basic underwater navigation skills and to introduce simple concepts behind navigation and compasses.

· Night Specialist – to show what its like to go night diving and introduce night diving considerations.

· Safety Specialist – to learn how to help your dive buddies when needed.

· Search and Recovery Specialist – to introduce basic skills for locating and retrieving lost items.

· Skin Diver Specialist – to teach basic snorkelling techniques.

· Snapshot Specialist – To capture underwater images using underwater cameras.

· Wreck Specialist – to develop fundamental skill for diving on wrecks, to introduce the concepts of wrecks as artificial reefs that require caution and protection and to familiarise kids with basic underwater archaeology concepts and procedures.
