A New Era in Diver Education
Big news for the dive community! Scuba Schools International (SSI) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Divers Alert Network (DAN). This collaboration will integrate DAN’s “Powered by DAN” first aid curriculum into SSI’s global training programs.
This partnership brings together two leaders in diver education and safety. Together, they ensure that SSI professionals and divers receive the most comprehensive, research-backed first aid instruction available in the industry.
"We believe that safety is the foundation of every dive, and first aid training is a critical component of creating responsible divers," said Guido Wätzig, CEO of SSI International. "By partnering with DAN, SSI is ensuring that our professionals and divers have access to the highest-quality, research-backed training available. This partnership will also help SSI Instructor Trainers develop the best, most well-prepared instructors in the industry."
What’s Changing?
Starting mid to late 2026, SSI’s first aid courses will begin incorporating DAN’s proven content. This includes Basic Life Support, CPR, oxygen administration, and much more. These updates will be hosted on SSI’s digital platforms. DAN will provide the e-learning materials and instructor resources.
During this transition, SSI’s current React Right program will remain available. This allows instructors and training centres to adapt smoothly without any disruption.
Why It Matters
🩺 Enhanced Safety: DAN’s curriculum covers more skills than any other lay provider course in diving. This ensures that divers are well-prepared for emergencies.
🌍 Global Consistency: Divers worldwide will benefit from standardized, high-quality training. This consistency is crucial for safety and preparedness.
🎓 Instructor Excellence: SSI Instructor Trainers will be equipped to develop the most capable instructors in the field. This means better training for everyone involved!
What’s Next?
The integration is currently in development, with more details expected in Q1 2026. For now, there are no changes to SSI’s existing programs or insurance partnerships with DAN and DiveAssure.
"It's wonderful to see a global leader like SSI joining the Powered By DAN program," added Bill Ziefle, President and CEO of DAN. "This collaboration strengthens diver safety worldwide. In an emergency, seconds may matter — and consistency in training can make all the difference."
Our Commitment to Safety
This partnership reflects SSI’s ongoing commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement. These are values we at Overland Underwater deeply share. We aim to be the top choice for scuba and freediving training in York, helping people of all ages and experience levels discover the underwater world.
Whether you’re a first-timer or an aspiring instructor, our goal is to maintain our reputation for quality and fun.
The Importance of First Aid Training
First aid training is essential for divers. It equips you with the skills needed to respond effectively in emergencies. Knowing how to administer CPR or provide oxygen can save lives.
As divers, we often find ourselves in situations where quick thinking and action are necessary. That’s why the integration of DAN’s curriculum into SSI training is a game-changer.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the partnership between SSI and DAN marks a significant step forward in diver education and safety. With enhanced training resources and a commitment to excellence, divers can feel more confident and prepared.
Let’s embrace this exciting change together! Dive safe, and remember: the underwater world is waiting for you!
