You can begin studying the academic portion at any time and from anywhere that suits you. We will then schedule your review and in-water training sessions according to your convenience.

During the pool training, your Instructor will teach you all the necessary skills in a controlled environment then during the open water training dives, you will apply your knowledge and repeat the skills under the supervision of your Instructor.

Upon completion of all required training sessions, we will issue your digital certification card. This will instantly appear on your MySSI App.

Hold the below qualifications:​

  • Diver Stress and Rescue

Hold the below qualifications or at least show proof of 5 logged dives each in the below areas:

  • Deep Diver

  • Navigation Diver

  • Night & Limited Visibility Diver

To become a Divemaster hold the above qualifications as well as:

  • Science of Diving

What are you qualified for?

  • Dive Guides may guide certified divers on recreational scuba dives.

  • Teach, supervise and issue recognition cards for the SSI Snorkel Diver program.

Divemaster (additional to Dive Guide)

MINIMUM AGE:
18

PREREQUISITES:
60 LOGGED DIVES (TOTALING 40HOURS OF DIVE TIME)

POOL SESSIONS: 
NONE

OPEN WATER SESSIONS:
NONE

DURATION:
2 - 3 hours

MAX TRAINING DEPTH:
40 meters 

What are you qualified for?

  • Act as a certified assistant for all SSI recreational scuba programs.

  • Assist during open water training dives by taking no more than two (2) students at a time on excursion dives.

  • Qualify as a Training Specialist for the SSI Ecology Specialty programs.

Keep learning and advancing your career by attending an Instructor Training Course (ITC) to become a qualified SSI Open Water Instructor. By obtaining additional Specialty Instructor qualifications, you'll gain more diversity and flexibility in your teaching, as well as open up new income options. Once you've become a Divemaster, the next milestone on your journey to becoming a scuba instructor is achieving the Assistant Instructor rating. This will allow you to start teaching beginners and provide assistance to instructors with divers. It's an exciting step forward in your underwater adventure!

As an instructor, you can continue your diving education by enrolling in a Specialty Instructor Seminar for each of the diving specialties you're interested in teaching. Alternatively, if you prefer hands-on learning, you can co-teach your chosen specialty alongside an experienced Specialty Instructor.
